When your child joins Priory Park Playgroup, you as a parent, may as many others, believe that we are a part of Priory Park Infant School. We are in fact a standalone charity and as such we are managed by a voluntary group of parents. These are parents whose children are attending the Playgroup. Financially we are self-funding. We receive an amount through central government for your child the term after he/she turns 3 (Nursery Education Funding). This funding covers the staffing budget; everything else is financed through the fundraising efforts of the setting. Therefore great emphasis is placed on parental involvement.
So how can you become involved with your child’s education and development and help make that all important difference? All we ask is that you make a commitment, no matter how large or small, to contribute to the Priory Park Playgroup community.
The playgroup is run by a Management Committee – Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Playgroup Manager, a Co-opted Member and a Representative from the Fundraising Group. The Management Committee is responsible for the overall management of the playgroup; legislation; employment and financial viability.
The Fundraising Group
The group meets regularly to discuss and organize fundraising events. You don’t need any previous experience, just enthusiasm, a good sense of humour and the desire to make a difference.
Maintenance and spring clean
If you are unable to get involved on a day to day basis, but have a skill or piece of equipment you feel we might benefit from, please let us know. We are always looking for plumbers, handymen (or women) to help maintain the buildings and hold an annual ‘Maintenance and Spring Clean Weekend’ over the Easter Holidays. Perhaps you could spare an hour or two during the weekend.
If you only have a small amount of time to spare then the Laundry Rota could be for you. The playgroup is open 38 weeks of the year, so if we have 38 volunteers out of 100 parents then it’s only once a year !
Parents, grandparents, all are welcome to come in and help during your child’s sessions at playgroup. Be it once a term or once a week come along and see first-hand what fun your child has at playgroup and maybe sharpen a pencil or two for us at the same time. Why not speak with our Practitioners to book a date in the Helping Hands Diary.
Or perhaps you could spare some time to help out on trips organised to support the children’s learning to Priory Park or the Fire Station.
