EYFS

Children develop in the context of relationships and the environment around them. This is unique to each family, and reflects individual communities and cultures.  The care and learning offered at Priory Park Playgroup helps your son/daughter to continue to do this by providing them with interesting activities that are appropriate for their age and stage of development.

At Priory Park Playgroup, we are passionate about play-based learning, which is built around the interest and fascinations of our children. We believe in providing a nurturing environment which will enable each children to feel content, secure and confident to allow them to achieve their full potential. We are committed to giving children opportunities learn both indoors and outdoors through free-flow access, encouraging independent choices with regard to their learning.

Enabling Environments

At Priory Park Playgroup our outdoor and indoor environments are organised to give children plenty of space to move around to work on the floor and on table tops, individually and in smaller and larger groups. Resources are organised and labelled so that children know where to find what they need and can be independent. Practitioners can spend more time joining in with children’s learning, extending their language and thinking and helping them to progress.  Through this supported play children can explore, develop and use their curiosity and imagination to help them make sense of the world in a secure environment.  They practise skills, build up ideas and concepts, think creatively and imaginatively and communicate with others as they investigate and solve problems.

Tapestry

At Priory Park Playgroup we keep electronic ‘Learning Journeys’ throughout the Early Years. These are created using a piece of educational software called ‘Tapestry’. By logging on with a secure username and password, observations and photographs of children’s learning can be viewed. This enables progress to be followed closely and for Parents and Children to reflect upon their achievements together. Parents are also able to reply to our comments as well as adding their own observations, news and photographs from home. All information is stored on a highly secure server, which is monitored closely.

Key Person

Our ‘Key Person’ system gives every child one special adult to relate to, supporting them in their transition from home to the playgroup environment and the playgroup to the school environment as well as ensuring that opportunities and experiences are provided to reinforce what they already know and move them on.

The Key Person develops and maintains links with the family, working with you, the parents, through shared record keeping and regularly parent communication ensuring that your son/daughter reaches their full potential.
